Blaugust 2023 – Lessons Learned – Indiecator

This here will be my 31st post of the month. I made it. Rainbow Award. Woo.

I didn’t plan on actually doing it. I figured that with all the exams I had going on over here and that with all the stress that my vacation was adding to my schedule… as well as the move into the apartment that I still haven’t found… Yeah, I basically gave up on the idea of 31 posts.

And well, yesterday, I was sitting at an impressive 17 posts… and then I wrote five yesterday… and now, I’m here right before midnight sitting at 31 posts. Jeez.

What I learned is that I need to put less pressure on myself. If I actually sit down and write stuff, I can do it. If I act as if I’m owing any publisher or whatever a post, I’d just get nothing done. So, none of that anymore and just pressure-free writing about stuff I like.

New-found vigor, huzzah!

Jesus christ, I wrote nine posts today (including this one) and only two of those were shit posts.

I’m actually not sure if I really learned much else here. I’ve been at it for four years and I had a blast highlighting all the new bloggers I that signed up for Blaugust in my Participant Appreciation Post… but I also hated myself for committing to it after a certain point.

Like, you essentially do something, thinking about how great it’s gonna be or how many people may actually feel good because of it… and then you’re at a point where you regret having started this thing you’re doing… but it’s too late to give up, so you still end up doing it.

Basically, “Writing the Blaugust Participant Appreciation Post is like playing against an Exodia Stall Deck in Yu-Gi-Oh!” is kinda what I wanted to say. At some point, you just let the enemy draw their whole deck and it’s not worth to surrender all of a sudden. You wanna see the animation, after all… at least, y’know.

No, it’s not that bad. I had a blast reading all the blog posts and blogs and actually following a few of them throughout the month and reading new stuff by them.

It’s really cool how many new people are out there and still blogging… and I can’t wait to see how many of them stick to it and who I could possibly rope into playing games with me sometime, haha.

I had a lot of fun this year and this final sprint for the past two days where I wrote a total of fourteen posts was a heck load of fun. I know it’s an insane thing to do but I was in less pain today and yesterday compared to the rest of the week. Migraines were less bad and my bruised back-rib isn’t hurting as much anymore, so… strike rich while the opportunity presents itself! Or rather until the head and back hurt again!

I’m looking forward to the next year of Blogging.

Cheers!
