Bury Me, My Love from ARTE, The Pixel Hunt, and FIGS is a text messaging adventure game about a Syrian migrant trying to find her way to Europe. Her name is Nour, and she’ll be in constant communication with her husband, Majd, who remains in Syria. It will be from these interactions that Majd will try to aid and advise Nour so that she can hopefully reach her destination as safely as possible.

Your journey begins due to tragedy. Bombs have been falling for years over the city of Homs in Syria. When Nour realizes that her little sister’s name has been added to the list of casualties from the bombings, Nour decides she’s had enough. Trying to make it to Europe in hopes of a better life is her plan. Unfortunately, her husband can’t join her on this trip. While he, too, has recently lost his father, he can’t leave. Why? Because he has to care for his grandfather and grandmother.

The pair uses their remaining savings to purchase two smartphones, install WhatsApp on them, make plans for the best routes for Nour to take, and decide this is what needs to be done for everyone’s future. As per the game’s description, the phrase “Bury Me, My Love” is a Syrian farewell that roughly translates to: “Take care, don’t even think about dying before I do.” Given the situation under which Nour and Majd part ways, that’s certainly an ominous phrase.

The game has been inspired by some real-life events, giving us a fictional take on a story that draws from an article from Le Monde journalist Lucie Soullier. Her article was written on the story of a young Syrian woman by the name of Dana, who fled Syria for Europe and is currently living in Germany. It was this article that sparked the idea for Bury Me, My Love, which you can now experience on Nintendo Switch.

You’ll be playing this one either by using the Nintendo Switch Joy-Con or the console’s touchscreen when playing Bury Me, My Love in Portable or Tabletop Mode or if using a Nintendo Switch Lite. Using the touchscreen allows you to tap around the phone on the screen as if you were holding it in your hands. When playing with the Nintendo Switch Joy-Con, you’ll use the D-Pad and the buttons to select the answers to send, close pictures, check the map, and more.

Since this is an adventure game, that means that choices matter, so be careful about how you reply to each message between Nour and Majd! The initial plan will certainly need to be modified along the way since new information is presented to Nour and Majd as you progress further and further, sometimes presenting contradicting data. There are different paths to take, many choices along the way, and 19 different endings on your path.

Bury Me, My Love is a text messaging adventure game about a Syrian migrant trying to find her way to Europe. After years of bombings and losing her little sister to one of these events, Nour and her husband Majd decide it’s best for Nour to try and make it to Europe in hopes of a better life. You can complete the game in a couple of hours or so, but since there are almost 20 different endings to reach, there’s certainly some replay value in this one to consider. Bury Me, My Love is out on Nintendo Switch with a budget price of only $4.99.
