I have soon finished to learn basics of C++ (from LearnCPP tutorial serie), pretty beginner at it but I don’t feel “too lost” while programming small code snippets to practice.
Biggest project I did was a puzzle game and a turn by turn combat between characters with some statistics.

After I finish my tutorial serie, I’m willing to make a simple mobile game to begin with as first “real project” to experiment.
I’m digging for informations to not start my journey poorly.

My questions would be :

  1. Is it a good idea to do my first game with unreal-engine/unity/godot to start ?
  2. I would guess learning how to make a game from scratch can be benefitial, but is it a “”waste of time”” nowadays with all the tools out there ? + discouraging factor
  3. As I’m arriving to the end of my tutorial serie, I’m starting to feel I’ll not directly use everything I learnt, when making games, does “advanced” C++/programming knowledge make a difference ?

I’m really dedicated to this journey, but I’m kind of lost on how to efficiently proceed, I don’t even really know which questions to ask, any advice would be a pleasure to take 🙂
